Atlantic False Jingle

Shell size to 40 mm; shell with irregular outline, surface sculpture of rough radial riblets. Byssal opening present in juvenile individuals, closed in adults. Color brown, tan, white, yellowish, purple, or lavender. Differs from the more ubiquitous Common Jingle, Anomia simplex, by the more rough-looking shell, almost completely devoid of nacre (mother-of-pearl).
